Remember when Dan and I went to see “The Belltower and the Butterfly” instead of “There will be Blood” because I didn’t want to see a movie with blood in it? Well, we finally rented the bloody movie. For those of you who saw it when it first came out, please excuse me for dredging up the past, but I can’t believe Daniel Day-Lewis won best actor for sounding like he was talking into a megaphone. Even I do a better man’s voice than that. And what was that ending all about?
“I’m finished?” . . .
What the hell does “I’m finished” mean?
Finished what?
Living?
Fighting the hypocrisy that is religion?
Eating with my hands?
Killing people?
Sitting on the floor?
And I can’t believe the way he smashed that kid’s head in with the bowling pin. I really can’t. I mean I understand why he did it, I just can’t believe it.
The next movie I’m going to see is “Women.” I heard it was awful but I want to see that coat Annette Bening was wearing in the photograph that the NewYork Times used as part of their horrible review. I’m pretty sure that’s why everyone’s going to see it.
